Flags, Fiestas and Farewell

After spending all that time in Mexico City I felt it was time to move on. I also needed to plan my trip to the USA. Going back to Antigua, Guatemala sounded like the best way to accomplish both things - I'd have a cheap place to stay, the atmosphere would be great, and I'd have internet access. And so I made my way to the airport, checked my backpack in and boarded the plane.

After clearing immigration in Guatemala I stood with the rest of the passengers waiting for my backpack. As it was making its way toward me I noticed that it seemed a little strange and not as colorful as it should have been. When I finally got it I saw the reason for this - someone had stolen almost all of the flags I had sewn onto it! After some fuming and some cursing in Hebrew (which got me a few strange looks from the other passengers) I pulled myself together, headed out of the airport and boarded the shuttle to Antigua.

Antigua hadn't changed during my absence. There was, however, one major difference - there were lots of Dutch people. I don't know where they all came from or what they were all doing there but their presence was undeniable. Couple this with the fact that Teresa told me that she would gladly give me her car while she was in Europe and what you get is a week of fun and partying - I didn't need to plan much anymore and I was surrounded by crazy people.

I spent the week meeting up with Steve and Raj (my old pals from Mexico City), picking up silly Dutch expressions and celebrating the Dutch holiday Koninginnedag (Queen's day).

On my way to the USA I decided to visit Mexico City one last time. After all - this was to be the final stop of my trip to Central America and I wanted it to be a grand finale. The local authorities decided to help and arranged a special parade in my honor.

And so my time in Central America came to an end - four and a half months, countless kilometers, crazy fiestas, volcanoes, lakes, ruins...

US and A - here I come!
